Vanessa Helsing, distant relative of famous vampire hunter Abraham Van Helsing, is resurrected only to find that vampires have taken over the world.
Most negative reviews are from people who didn&#39;t get past the first few couple episodes. The show definitely has a rough start, but steadily improves throughout the season. I think this is partly because the show just drops you right into the story with little explanation. Eventually the show will bring you up to speed.<br/><br/>While this is a typical lower budget sci-fi series, it occasionally has near movie quality effects when it matters. There is also some quality acting as well. Rukiya Bernard (doc) is particularly good and there are several other talents who help make the show come alive.<br/><br/>I give this show a 7 because there are some actors that are noticeably weaker and just don&#39;t pull off their part as well. There are some cliché characters, plot devices that are used poorly, and there are times when you are reminded just how low budget some of these series are. <br/><br/>All that said I enjoyed this series quite a bit after the first couple eps. I watched the first season over a weekend in two sittings and look forward to season two.
This is yet another survival drama. If you arent bored to tears of those by now then this might be an ok show to watch but be forwarned that this is not a very good one. The plot is very slow to develop, character building is tedious, none of the characters are likable, and the stories are just silly. <br/><br/>1st of all I dont know why this is called Van Helsing. The name is generally synonymous with action adventure but this has barely any action at all. 95% of the show is talking, and walking around trying to solve a mystery. In this case, there is a killer in the group and we spend all season trying to find them and as it happens, the killers like to keep finger trophies which were found very late in the season. It was really a very boring plot. No mystery to it at all. He just happened to get caught by chance.<br/><br/>The whole premise of this woman is silly. If she can turn vampires back to human and makes them immune to vampirism, then the very 1st thing that should have happened is for fighters to get immunized. Seriously, how is this not obvious to a grade schooler? Sure its not the safest solution but give the situation they were in it would have been far better than any possible side effects. But whatever.<br/><br/>The group wanders around, finds other groups, does not get along because every person in the show is bonkers for the sake of making something happen. But hey the lead lady is hot and of course she runs into a white samurai hero who likes to train topless.. that should tell you all you need to know about the quality of this show. It had to turn sex appeal to try and hold an audience. Super lame.
